Note to Battle of the Brisket Contestants:
We have met our maximum capacity for the contest, and are
accepting additional teams only on a waiting list at this time.
The Mission Convention and Visitors Bureau was formed by City Ordinance in Febraury of 2009. This organization replaces the former Mission Business Development Committee (MBDC), first established in August of 2003 to assist in the revitalization and redevelopment of the Mission business district. The mission of the new organization is to bring visitors and citizens together to share in the spirit of our community events and businesses.
Annual Events
The Mission Convention and Visitors Bureau continues the tradition of the Business Development Committee in sponsoring events that attract thousands of residents and visitors to our City's business district each year. In 2007, we hosted the first sanctioned Kansas State Championship Bar-B-Que Contest, an event that attracted over 50 teams from across the midwest.
Grant Program
Since it's formation in 2003, the Mission Business Development Committee administered the Business Assistance Grants program of matching funds for external improvements to commercial businesses. That valuable program continues; however, with the formation of the Mission Convention and Visitors Bureau, the responsibility for administration of that program transfers to the City's Community Development Department.
