Battle of the Brisket State Championship

Starting in 2004 the City of Mission began including a barbeque contest as a part of our annual Arts & Eats Festival. In 2007 we hosted the very first Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) Sanctioned Kansas State Championship "Battle of the Brisket" Barbeque Contest. We have continued to sponsor this event since its inception.

Our annual barbeque contest has grown. Starting with less than 15 local teams in 2004, we now typically host 60 to 75 teams in our annual event. Beginning in 2010 this event is conducted in partnership with the Kansas City BBQ Store.

The annual "Battle of the Brisket" Kansas State Championship Barbeque Contest is held on the the grounds of the City of Mission's Sylvester Powell, Jr. Community Center.

Restroom facilities are provided with portable toilets and access to facilities in the Community Center. Contest participants also have access to shower facilities in the Community Center.
