City of Mission 60th Anniversary Celebration

Come to Spirit of Mission Days 2011 and help celebrate the City of Mission's 60th anniversary

Come join us May 5th through May 7th and May 12th through May 15th as we celebrate the City of Mission's 60th Anniversary! Our 60th Anniversary Celebration will be held in conjunction with our annual "Spirit of Mission Days" event held on the grounds of the Sylvester Powell, Jr. Community Center at 6200 Martway in Mission.

Be sure to visit the Community Center throughout the event and tour the photographs and memorabilia representing the many different aspects of Mission. Items contributed by the City, the Mission Police Department, the former Mission Fire Department, Shawnee Mission North High School, Rushton Elementary School, the former St. Pius School, the former Hickory Grove Elementary School, Millhaven Home Owners Association, Countryside Home Owners Association, the Morrison Ridge Area Neighborhood Organization and many private citizens wukk be on display throughout the hallways and lobbies of the Community Center.

Our schedule of events for the celebration includes:

Friday Evening, May 8th

Saturday, May 7

  • 11:00 a.m. - City of Mission 60th Anniversary Parade - along Johnson Drive between Birch and Dearborn Streets. Come and enjoy the Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe impersonators, classic cars, antique vehicles, Shriners, marching drill teams, politicians and more.
  • 12:00 to close - Parade classic cars on display
  • 12:00 to 12:45 p.m. - performance by The Doo-Dads: Kid Kool Rock
  • 1:00 p.m. - Performance and photo op by Elvis impersonator
  • 3:00 p.m. - DVC /Capitol Federal Childrens' Coin Hunt
  • 4:00 p.m. - Paco Dance Academy Performance
  • 7:30 p.m. - “Drive In” movie “Grease”
  • 7:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. - Sock Hop dance with Roger Carson

Thursday, May 12th through Sunday, May 15th - Evans Midland Empire Carnival
