Mission, KAN (Nov. 17, 2006): “Holiday Lights and Festive Sights” will launch the holiday season in Mission on Saturday evening, Nov. 18, according to Suzie Gibbs, Chair of the Mission Business Development Council. Activities will begin at 5:00 pm at the intersection of Johnson Drive and Woodson. The family-friendly event is sponsored by Keystone Chrysler Suzuki and Mission Springs/Ashford Place.
There will be a visit from Santa Claus, entertainment from popular children’s performer Jim Cosgrove (Mr. Stinky Feet), a holiday tree and street lighting, free S’Mores and hot chocolate, street vendors, and a local school choir. In the children’s area kids can enjoy face painting, coloring books, a caricature artist, holiday stories read by Mrs. Santa Claus, and holiday ornaments to paint. At 9:00 p.m. there will be a festive fireworks display.
A new addition to the event this year is ‘Cash or Cans for Turkey Day,’ according to Gibbs. Donations of any non-perishable items and money will be accepted at the event, or can be taken to Mission City Hall, 6090 Woodson by Monday, Nov. 20, 2006. “The Mission Business Development Committee and the City of Mission are partnering with the Johnson County Human Services & Aging to help ten families with a Thanksgiving Basket,” add Gibbs
