Spirit of Mission Days Seeking Floats for Parade and Nominations for Grand Marshall
Mission, KS (March 16, 2007): The Annual “Spirit of Mission Days,” scheduled for Saturday, May 12, will have several new features this year, according to Suzie Gibbs, Chairman of the Mission Business Development Committee. The Cow Parade has been replaced with a community-focused parade that will include members from the Abdallah Shrine Temple, high school bands, and floats. There is no charge to have a float in the parade, according to Gibbs, and awards will be presented to outstanding entries. Interested parties can contact Gibbs at (913) 671-8564 or Laura Thomsen, Event Coordinator, 913-722-8215.
Another parade feature new this year will be the unique selection of the Grand Marshall. Residents are being asked to nominate an outstanding woman who is a Mission area resident for the honor and a committee will select the worthy person to be Grand Marshall. Anyone who would like to make a nomination can send them to Suzie Gibbs, 6090 Woodson, Mission, KS 66202.
Also included in the Spirit of Mission Days for 2007 are a classic car display, mother and daughter fashion show, children’s hat parade, the Shawnee Mission North Jazz Band, live music, and inflatable attractions for the children. Hungry adults and children can choose from a selection of cuisines served from the booths of area food purveyors and the highly popular Rotary Pancake Breakfast on Saturday morning from 7:30 to 10:00 a.m. More event details will be released prior to the event.
