Celebrating 60th Anniversary of the City

The Mission Convention and Visitors Bureau (Mission CVB) is turning back the hands of time to the 1950s to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Mission, Kansas in 1951 and is now accepting parade entries for their “Spirit of Mission Days” parade scheduled for Saturday morning, May 7, 2011, 11:00 am. Folk Artisans Invited to Sell Creations at the 2010 Mission Arts and Eats Festival

Folk artisans and craftspeople from the metro Kansas City area, Kansas and Missouri are now being invited to register to sell and display their works of art and wares at annual Arts and Eats Festival, September 17 and 18, 2010, in Mission, Kansas. Folk art will be the featured artwork at this year’s event and by definition it encompasses a range of utilitarian and decorative media, including cloth, wood, paper, clay, metal and more. Mission CVB Board Members Dalton and Gibbs Receive Honors for Service

Arts & Eats Festival & Battle of the Brisket Family Friendly Fun - Set for
September 18 & 19, 2009 in Mission, Kansas

Take more than fifty eager Bar-B-Que teams, add some favorite KC bands, include the wares of local arts and crafters, give the kids inflatables to play on, and top it off with tasty treats from favorite food vendors, all these things and more are the makings of the 2009 Mission Arts and Eats Festival and the Battle of the Brisket Bar-B-Que Contest, according to Suzie Gibbs, Chairman, Mission Convention and Visitors Bureau, the volunteer group that produces the annual festival. Mission Business Development Committee Changes Name

The Mission Business Development Committee (MBDC) has changed their organization name to the Mission Convention and Visitors Bureau (MCVB) as of March 1st, according to Suzie Gibbs, Chairperson. “The new name will allow us to enlarge our organization through the addition of a new steering committee. As our events continue to increase in activities and attendance, we need more volunteers to assist us,” says Gibbs. (Read the press release...)

Holiday Lights and Festive Sights - December 5th Schedule of Activities

There will be some highly enjoyable Holiday Lights and Festive Sights set on Johnson Drive in Mission, Friday evening, Dec. 5th, when the city celebrates the beginning of the holiday season. Set on Johnson Drive, between Woodson and Beverly, Holiday Lights and Festive Sights is a the family-friendly event beginning at 5:30 p.m. and includes the lighting of the  Christmas Tree at 6:15 pm, Santa and Mrs. Santa arriving at 6:30 pm, the Shawnee Mission North Choir performing at 6:30 pm, the Dino O’Dell Interactive Children’s Show at 7:00 pm. Mission Business Development Committee Celebrates Fifth Anniversary

On the 4th Tuesday evening of each month, a diverse group of dedicated citizens meet at the Sylvester Powell, Jr. Community Center to plan and produce three unique community events each year to showcase Mission, Kansas. Mission’s “Battle of the Brisket Barbecue Contest” Announces Winners

Mission, Kansas was smoking Friday evening Sept. 19, and Saturday, Sept.  20, 2008 when fifty-seven teams vied for top prizes and bragging rights in the 2008 “Battle of the Brisket State Championship Bar-B-Que Contest.” The Grand Champion prize, given for the highest combined score in the four meat categories, went to the Dodge County Smokers (Neal Dunker, Mission and Chris Nickelson, Leavenworth). Registration forms are now available for all students in the Northeast Johnson County area who would like to take part in the “Headstrong for Jake Bike Safety Rodeo,” scheduled for Saturday, May 10, 2008, 10:30 am-1:00 pm, at the Sylvester Powell Jr. Community Center, 6299 Martway St, in Mission, according to Suzi Gibbs, Chairperson of the Mission Business Development Committee. The bike safety rodeo is a new event at the 2008 “Spirit of Mission Days” which will have family-focused activities and entertainment both Friday evening, May 9, and Saturday, May 10, 2008.
